Earn a Master of Arts in Teaching from Tufts University
Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Online

In the online Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program offered by Tufts University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, we position candidates for the deeply intellectual and humanizing work of teaching. We have a strong tradition of preparing thoughtful, creative, and empathetic educators.

Recognizing that schools can both reproduce and disrupt the inequities of society, you will learn to listen to and value students’ thinking as you cultivate the perspectives and tools needed to thrive in the classroom.

STEM-Focused MAT Program

Tufts offers an online MAT program in Elementary STEM leading to initial teacher licensure in Massachusetts. This program is available for Massachusetts residents only.1

This program prepares you to place STEM at the heart of your work as an educator and explore how young students:

  • Make sense of the physical world
  • Find and describe patterns
  • Solve problems in their lives

Your work will be grounded in critical perspectives that surface how power operates in schools and why it is important to focus on equity and dignity in classroom teaching.
